mine would be getting the ratio correct, I've got it now though, but people make mistakes! I still make them now!

Tip blending .
smile lines .....Sigh
and shaping the nail !! i tend to over file it and then have to correct the rest .

This thread is really old but as they say.....

"it's an oldie but a goodie"

Good to see that all those years ago techs were having the same probs that us new techs still have to this day.

For me it's smile lines, blending and the dreaded lifting....chasing it down towards the F/E just drives me insane:mad:

I feel like a big weight has been lifted off my shoulders reading this thread, thank goodness I'm not alone. I passed an NVQ2 last July and honestly feel sometimes like I'm going backwards. Confidence is my biggest problem. I do what I think is a fairly decent set of nails for my experience at this time, then the next set goes c**p. Mix ratio seems to change as I work through a set of nails. Starts fine then ends up too wet, although just bought a new brush incase its that. But the minute I start doubting myself it all goes wrong. Also I never feel like my nails look neat around the sidewalls and I still get lifting on the free edge of a nno set. Oh well perfect practise like geeg says, so I'm off for a 121 next Sunday thank god. :green: Take care geeks xxxxx

Smiles, white smiles, give me any other colour and I'm good, glitter, any colour of the rainbow including black and I've got it but put white on the end of my brush and I'm done for, sticks to my brush, splodges everywhere except where I want it, sets to quickly you name it white smiles are my bogy man. I use white tips or reverse sculpt.

 Oh god Susie H, I haven's even tried white smile lines yet, I think I would have a complete breakdown lol xx

I am so glad that tip blending has been listed. I thought I was the only one!
There is one main issue: I was never quite sure when enough was enough. I am still not 100% now and I am going to book a further training so I can improve.

Mix ratio was also another challenge. I feel like (with copious amounts of practice) I have mastered it now. The correct the mix ratio is such a joy to work with!

Great thread.

Tip for checking if you've blended enough:

If you wipe over your blended tip with something wet - I usually use either scrub fresh or some of my hand sanitiser on a lint free wipe but anything will do really - when your nail & tip is wet it is what it will look like under your overlay so if when wet you can still see the join you need to continue filling if when wet you cant see anything your finished. :):):)

My problem is with timing. I used to have issues with mix ratio and teeny bubbles but think I've sorted that now I just take sooo long to do a set that I get annoyed with myself.

Can I just jump in here :wink2:
Use a product other than Scrubfresh to do that as it contains acetone and you shouldn't be using it on tips or you could find splinter cracks appearing :green:

Thanks for that - I tend not to have to wipe too much now probably twice at most but used to use whatever wet lint free wipe I have at hand from the service lol so have been known to use scrubfresh but will just use my NSI sanitiser form now on :)

I've been working with gel for the last few months and I love doing gel but am making myself revisit L&P again over the next few weeks to see if I can like it more that I did last time I used it (just cant like doing l&p lol).

I do this trick to with tips to see if they are blended correctly or not.

I use my sanitiser (now sanipure) spray from NSI and it works well.

I always feel like I'm double killing any germs that might get in there after I have blended and prepped:lol:

What part of your enhancement training did you find the hardest to master?

For me it had to be tip blending, I was scared as hell to file the natural nail and hurt my victims (models).

Same here!! I'm teriffied of filing the natural nail or hurting my model. Most of my timing problems are to do with tip blending!!! It takes me longer to blend than apply the L&P:eek:.

I've already decided I LOVE forms and hate tips

Mine was most definiatley SMILE LINES!!!! lol

Great read .

For me it was applying tips which I still dislike doing, much prefare to sculpt.
