I have a client who uses pantene, has done for years. I have explained that they are full of silicones which coat the hair and make it look healthy but that actually the hair isnt really in any better condition. She wont have any of it and says her hair is fine (and annoyingly it is in beautifull condition)
What more can i say!xx

Go to the £1 shop and get the travel bottles, decant some of the shampoo and conditioner you use in the salon/ when you go to their house and give it her for free to try.
I know what she means though, mine would feel 100x better if I used Pantene but I'd prefer to not have half a breast implant on my head. Xoxo

Hahaha this had me in stitches!
Pantene, the devils shampoo!

Tell her the same company that make Pantene also make daz washing powder!!

P&g? I sent them a snotty email about animal testing from the mind of the test rabbits and the parents of the rabbit, really disturbing with how in depth it was about the pain, then last second flipped it that it was them and their child in the pain as they were the rabbits and if they would want that for their child.

All I got back was animal testing is kept to a minimum. Xoxo

thanks for replys! its so annoying lol isnt it, i admit i used it once when staying at my bfs house and my hair has never felt so sot and shiney!! Was so tempted to buy some, i didnt though lol.
Are the silicones drying to the hair over time or something? xx

I think the silicone just builds up in layers on the shaft so after continued use the hair looks better.
I'm gonna go to the shampoo section of the supermarket next time I go shopping and shout **** head at people trying it xoxo

**** head lmao!!!!
I am going to make it my mission to wean her off it, i dont think ill win though lol! i need good hard facts to put her off lol!x

I'd say a free trial of whatever you use wouldn't go a miss, she dosent have to pay for it so it's a bonus for her and I don't know a person alive who wouldn't want to use professional products but sometimes it's a money issue.
Give her a bit of a push with a trial and explain what's good about what you are reccomending but don't put down Pantene to her, because if she can't afford to keep up pro products she may feel down.
Many clients save to have their hair done now due to higher bills and price increases everywhere but no wage rise then you have to think if they are embarrassed to say they are in financial difficulty xoxo

i may have to give her a free trial! i hope im not coming across as mean lol she is my auntie and knows i would get her proffesional shampoos and things for trade price! she just loooooves the stuff

Lol well if you know she can afford it then try it on a bit more, also do it as a on the sider that you will get it in for her at £trade to be fair it's probably only a couple of pound more than home brands.
I tried to sell a shine serum years back for £13 the client said she would go to tesco and get it for £1 or £2, so I bought the salon one and she bought the supermarket then after a year compare spending, she'd spent about double the pro products and thought it was a bargain then I said id bought one and still wasn't finished with it. Moral of the story... Professional products also last longer as less is needed to get the same results xoxo

Tomme you do make me laugh lol god i hate pantene! yes, it does make hair feel soft, but it makes it so much harder to colour effectively! I always ask new clients what shampoo they use, if they say pantene, I tell them to wash their hair for 7 days with a cleansing shampoo before i am prepared to colour their hair. In the past, i have had colours look patchy, uneven and totally not take at all because of pantene! Another great trick on patnene users, is to open your scissors, and scrape down the hair shaft with one of the scissor blades, and see the white flaked come off the hair - this is the silicone! When they see this, it suddenly dawns on them what utter rubbish they are putting on their hair. Rant over pmsl! xoxo

So aside from the colouring problems, is the sillicone build up actually bad for the hair? im not trying to stick up for it i just want to fully understand as im allways telling clients not to use it :D

It dehydrates the hair x

I would say that the silicone itself isn't bad for hair, but after using it for a while it will weigh down the hair making it look flat and lifeless, I suppose it's like a temporary 'quick fix' for damaged hair, kinda like a barrier - it may appear smooth and shiny, but underneath it's still damaged.

Tell her to imagine what would happen to a cucumber if you left the plastic wrapper on for a few days/weeks. Using pantene suffocates your hair in a similar way by wrapping it in silicone and instead of going mushy your hair becomes drier

This is an interesting thread! I am a beauty therapist so I know what to put on my skin but I never know what to put on my hair!!

Can any hairdressers recommend a nice shampoo etc or a brand that is healthy and animal cruelty free?!

Heard kerastase is good but aren't they part of loreal which are known for their lies?!

Thanks xx

I was wondering what I should be using too. I use head and shoulders at the moment but I don't know if I should be lol

I know head and shoulders strips the colour out your hair!!!

I need to swap then as I'm having mine coloured next week, doesn't usually matter because I've never had it dyed before.
