Personally I cannot stand the smell, vile stuff :(

I tried sooooo many hair care products (no respect any more for liv Tyler!)

This is an interesting thread! I am a beauty therapist so I know what to put on my skin but I never know what to put on my hair!!

Can any hairdressers recommend a nice shampoo etc or a brand that is healthy and animal cruelty free?!

Heard kerastase is good but aren't they part of loreal which are known for their lies?!

Thanks xx

I believe the only well known brand that is PETA certified (cruelty free) but i don't rate it...I use kitoko and it's cruelty free but not well known...all colour safe, even the deal cleanser and volume range :)

I am loving Osmo range - not tested on animals either.

So aside from the colouring problems, is the sillicone build up actually bad for the hair? im not trying to stick up for it i just want to fully understand as im allways telling clients not to use it :D

It basically fills the hair with silicone,or ****s as Tomme puts it lol!
Have you wet stretch tested the clients hair in front of the mirror to show her what its doing compared to what her hair should do?This works well with my clients.

Ok, im confused.
Iv popped over from skin and nails.
I have very cury hair. However im doing an experiment (with mixed results) on only washing my hair in silicone and sulphate free conditioner. Sometimes i use a silicone and sulphate free shampoo. Also only using silicone and sulphate free hair products.
But when i look at all the shampoos etc. They all seem to contain silicone. So why is pantene so bad for your hair, when so many shampoos containe the silicone.
btw i have never used pantene, lol.

Pantene has a really high silicone percentage. Give biolage a try.

Give it a thought this way, you wash your hair to rid it of gunk Greece ad product, would you want to add some crap to it before you even finished washing it.

As a idea to the skin or nail geeks... Would you cover your hands in tar then leave it on? Probably not. The skin wouldn't breathe and any care product like moisturiser wouldn't penetrate so wouldnt be effective, it's simmilar with shampoos with high silicone content.

As for head and shoulders... Does your head itching more you notice more flakes since using it? More than likely the scalp is just dry and not a fungal type infection which dandruff is, switch to a sensative or moisture filled shampoo, or do like I do for a quick fix after my colour, get a full tub of cheap moisturiser ( one you can get ur hands in ad get a big handful) and massage it into the scalp, leave for 20 something mins then rinse and shampoo. Flakes be gone, itching be gone and a super soft scalp haha. But mines from bleaching my hair quite harshly that damages my scalp xoxo

So product wise, what is best?!

What is silicone free? And ammonia free? (I can sometimes smell the ammonia it's so strong)

Matrix biolage is lovley stuff, I use touch of silver by another brand on myself to keep the tone, but am switching to matrix violet shampoo when I finish what I have stock pile bought xoxo

Most people don't have dandruff, head and shoulders just make everyone think a flake means dandruff. Xoxo

did a colour on someones hair once who used pantene......the colour dident take xx

You could try saying that yes the initial outlay for proffessional products is a lot, but seeing as a lot of them are more concentrated you only haveto use half as much as you would with Pantene!! There for cutting down global warming lol!!! X

I never knew that, thanks. I only knew pantene was bad for you. I'v never used head n shoulders. I heard it makes your hair fall out.:Scared: No idea if its true. My nan's hair started falling out. I bought her a shampoo for thickening from wholesalers. Her her is lovely now. I then found out she used head n shoulders. No idea though if this contributed to her hair falling out.
Can you by biolage at the wholesalers?
