Dermalogica Face Mapping

Has anyone done the Dermalogica facemapping course? If so , what did ya think? Do you use it now?

I have, it was great, we had a lady do it for us at college, yes I still use it now (well up until I left the salon 3 weeks ago) and found it really useful, the prescription pad means you can give one to the client and keep one attatched to her record card, so it's very useful knowing what she has and hasnt bought, so from a retail point of view its great, also over time you can track the improvements and changes to the skin

Yup it was a great course to go on. I would use the technique with any product not just dermalogica as it is a very useful and great way to understand a client's skin type. They should teach in college.

yes I agree, it can be used with any product range, or even for a consultation for reatil, however if you're not using dermalogica then you're not allowed to call it 'face mapping' as they will (and have done in the past) come down on you like a ton of bricks! (I know a salon that this happened to!!) hope this helps and good luck petal xxx

no, although I have done that and found it really interesting! dermalogica face mapping breaks your face (not literally lol) up into 14 different zones

I do face mapping - I love it, makes consultations so easy and clients love it - at shoes people queue for hours!

I love Dermalogica and their concept, don't think you can go wrong!

Is face mapping just a clever way of marketing skin analysis?! I've always wondered as I'm sure I do the same thing when I am doing a skin consultation without the fancy name! What's different about this technique please apart from looking at the face in set sections. :hug:

I do, I do! I love it. I find that clients like it because they really feel you're working with them on their concerns about their skin. I also find that it helps with selling the products! I've always found it hard to retail (I hate feeling like I'm making the client feel awkward) but with face mapping you can explain what you have marked on the prescription sheet, pop it in an envelope along with some samples and if they don't want to buy anything, they're not saying no to your face but if they do want to buy something, they're buying it because they genuinely want the product and that way they will listen to your advice and use it correctly.

no, its a basically a damn good consultation and you fill in a chart as you go along, its on carbon paper so you keep a copy and give one to the client which basically reccomends which product they use on which zone of the face and how many times a day/week/month.

As far as I know dermalogica 'own' the term 'face mapping' but other skincare companies do similar things and call it something else

This is exactly what you are taught to do when you initially learn about skin surely! or am I missing something? the only difference is that we are taught to write it down on a record card not carbon paper!

It's hard enough to recommend some people one line of products that they take you up on, let alone telling them they need two or more lines! lol

and Gillian - yes you're pretty much correct but really I use it more say different masques for different areas, or treatment ampules, but yes some clients can benefit more from different moisturisers on different zones. I'll see if I can upload a copy of a face mapping analysis sheet so you can see what it's all about xx

Thanks Sodabubble, I have actually seen one as I had a lovely facial by LuxuryBeauty a lovely geek. I didn't ask many questions though as was trying to relax for once! It is definitely a good way to make sure a thorough consultation is performed. I think clients think it is something that does not come as standard with a facial though due to the way it is portrayed. Clever marketing ploy!

thats all it is really! makes the client feel special! I do like dermalogica products and I like the face mapping sheets as they are simple to fill in and look ever so pro! It's really just a clever little afterthought by dermalogica, it's not rocket science when you pull it apart, but I think it has it's benefits
