I did a set of a la mode on Friday and by the next day she had experienced chipping at the top in the cuticle area. This has never happened to me before.
She is coming back for me to repair. Is it better for me to totally remove it all and start again?
Or what shall i do?
Feel really knocked with confidence a bit now!

Can anyone help with my query above?

Oh that's annoying Frankie. Could you maybe have touched the cuticle with the product?

I would soak off the chipped nails and re do.

Really annoying. I made extra sure i didn't touch it. She said more have done it today. Will just have to see how bad it is tomorrow.

Sometimes on my own I can get chips there & it's if I haven't carefully layered all coats & topcoat so it's a bit thin at the cuticle edge. Could that be it?

As an aside, has anyone noticed vampire red chipping more easily than others?

No, but I'm getting feedback from 2 clients that the glitters are lasting longer? Has anybody else heard this?

Yes that's my experience Sarah.

How are you getting on with the Neons? I'm going to buy Orange when the next 3 for 2 is on - want it for the beach!

What can you recommend for me to do to avoid chipping like this again?

If you've never had it before I would just try again. It could be anything from the nail not clean enough to uneven coverage.

I found this when I started putting cuticle oil round the cuticles while I was soaking off. The next new set started lifting at the cuticle.

Now I put a couple of drops in the d-solve instead & it seems to be ok.

Would putting step 2 in a very thin line around the cuticle area help? Not to cover the whole nail though.

Isn't that strange? I wonder why? The neon's are going great!! There's 3 that my wholesalers won't stock and I've contacted Palms Extra about buying them, but they don't reply to my emails :-/

Hiya, at my Gelicure training we were originally taught to put step 2 all the way around the edges e.g. along and over the free edge down the side walls and along the cuticle line. However I’m aware that this is not what many other techs were taught. I now use the method of just along the free edge with clients who I have found difficult to remove and for the rest, I apply all around the edges and don’t notice that it’s any more difficult to remove. This should help with lifting at the cuticle area.

‘Chipping’ at the cuticle area sounds a bit strange... especially so soon after application. Probs in this area are the usual - nail not sufficiently cleansed, skin on nail surface, gel touching cuticle, thick application round cuticle, gel not curing properly (lamps)? If this is not the case then I would think - client ‘picky picky’? or she’s gone and had a steaming hot bath, Jacuzzi, steam/sauna or cleaning the bog (chemicals!) within 24 hours of having them done. This could be the cause of lifting, as for ‘chipping’ this defo sounds like she’s been picking at the edges to me. I only ever find that the gel ‘chips’ at the free edge.

Hth and don’t beat yourself up about it xx

Thank you so much for your help. I am very methodical about my cuticle work and making sure the area is cleansed. What do you use the cleanse the area before application?

I use either palms sanitiser or the Nubar cleansing solution.

Does anyone have any experience with Gelicure and sun cream etc? I'm off on holiday soon so wondering if I should get DH to put my sun cream on Hehe!

If it not's one of the usual supects (regarding prep/application), then it is more likely to be the clients nails or what she's doing with them!

After shape and cuticle work I brush off dust with a nail brush, then wipe/scrub the nail down with Nubar nail cleanser or Bio dual cleanser on a lint free wipe, wait til nail is dry then proceed with step 1.

During my gelicure training there wasn't really alot of onus on cuticle prep, only to push them back, which actually works fine, but i do find I get great results if I do a really good job on the cuticle using a metal pusher to remove any trace of skin growing up the nail.. but then that's probably why i take 45 mins rather than 30?! :o xx
