I forgot to say my dogs were called Reggie and winston, both staffs and both super cute x

WOW!! I knew you lot would give me some inspiration - and thanks for the links, thats just above and beyond the call of duty!! LOL :green:

There are some great names there, but the one that has caught my eye the most so far is EWOK!!! Loving that!! I'll mention it to hubby and see what sort of reaction I get pmsl....

Loads of the ones you've come up with are names of other peoples malamutes on a malamute forum I belong to (sad or what lol)

Jaffa would also be fitting as we're gonna get him done...LMAO!

Thanks so much x

I wanted to call my dog "Rocco" but my hubby won with "Axl" , yup he's a true Guns N Roses fan!

I love "Rocco" , your breed looks more like a Rocco actually.

Not at all, we have read every thing we can get our hands on. We have been to meet owners with these dogs and been to see the mum and dad on more than one occasion. The breeder let me go out walking with her and her two dogs so I could get an idea of what that is like (they arent very dog friendly) that is the only thing that slightly worries me, not the furballs and digging, but other peoples dogs coming up to it  we will take it training from day one and may get a rig which is a buggy type thing on wheels that they pull along, there are working clubs that we can join, dont get much snow here normally...

Actually, mine was VERY friendly with other dogs. I know why they "usually" aren't, it's a "pack frame of mind" sort of thing, and alpha male and all of that business. But, I'm sure if you start him young, exposing him OFTEN to other dogs and several different ones, he could be fine like mine was. We exposed him often starting early on (cats too, man, THAT was funny, hehe), and at 'any' sign of aggression, he was corrected/reprimanded. Later years, he was very friendly with other dogs unless they were aggressive towards him, of course.

Sorry, yes, they are different. But, samoyed, malamutes and husky... all cousins, aye?:wink2:

I'm so glad to hear that you have really educated yourself! Again, not meaning to offend or cast assumptions: I have just met so many people that get a breed they know nothing about and A)ruin the dog b) abandon it at a shelter or whatever because it's not what they want.
Super happy to hear you'll join the club too. You'll love it.
And yes, training with such a dog is MEGA important due to their physical strength and 'nature' of trying to be the 'alpha' and you certainly dont want ANY confusion who the alpha is. They NEED to know it's YOU.

Mine was extremely well trained. (Lucky for me lol) And yet, you just never know.
I was out for a walk with my girlfriend and her 3yr old daughter.. Keep in mind, my dog was extremely friendly with cats and dogs and strangers etc.
Her daughter saw an old lady walking a poodle and went up to it, thinking it was a 'puppy' and wanted to pet it. This "puppy" (was actually an adult, and old one) was not on a leash  Anyway, it snapped and jumped and growled at Erica (3yr old) and kept approaching us and Erica. All of a sudden, my dog on his leash, lunged snarling..... Darn good thing I had runners on my feet and a good grip... he was gonna make minced meat out of that poodle. I was spooked by my own dog. I had NEVER seen him react like that, EVER. I could barely restrain him from that poodle and told the stupid broad to pick up her permed rat and get him inside cause I didn't think I could hold my dog anymore.
Once the poodle was out of sight, my dog was his normal carefree harmless self again and all over Erica washing her face and enticing her to play with him.
I on the other hand, had bloody blisters from trying to hold him back.
So, moral of the story: even the best trained dogs can get out of line sometimes no matter what you say to them.

sorry, got on a ramble there.
lol
Now I'm sooooooooooo missing that dog:cry:
I have a wee pekeingese now.. love him dearly.
But he's nothing like my samoyed was.

Cor Blimey! Glad everyone was ok.
Sounds like he was trying to protect the little girl as the dog saw what happened.
My dog's the same, only the George though.
If my Dad visits with my lil 9yr old sister and he shouts at her for something, my dad IMMEDIATLEY gets an earful of barking and growling from George (my dog) who positions himself between my dad and my lil sis protecting her. Dont think he likes her getting shouted at and it seems he's trying to tell my Dad off!! LOL
My 2 ******* arent even bothered by it. And usually he is the most placid dog out of all three!!
He must feel the urge to protect the 'pack' :green:

Axl does that, he stands between me and my husband if he cuddles me and if we play fight Axl grabs his arm with his mouth and moves it away from me.
Also if anyone knocks at the door he stands against me horizontaly so he makes a barrier.
He has got even worse since I got pregnant, he wont let anyone near me, we think he thinks it's his baby!

Hiya

Sooooooo cute

We have a German Gun Dog called BAXTER

Yup, that's exactly what happend. It scared me a bit. But it also reminds me of the time I took him for a quick run up and down the street right before school. It was winter, and the roads were icey (quebec here) and I went down on my heiney and howled cause I banged my tailbone. I made such a ruckus, my girlfriend's (who always stopped by my house on the way to the bus, we'd walk together) came running up the street. Cause I was howling, my dog would't let them near me.
Another time, my old man went to box my ear, and my dog bit his arm before he could.
He was super gentle with babies... they could crawl all over him, pull his ears and tail and would only cry if they hurt him and he wouldn't even move. But if someone threatened me HOLY COW. LOL

HUGS

Hi,

I've got 2 puppies, a jack russell called scampi and a border terrier called rusty was going to call her chips but didn't really want to be shouting that across the park!

I like the name frosty and I also like Ice!:)

DAVE is always a good name for a dog!!

I don't have a malamute, but I do have a beautiful Siberian Husky with two light blue eyes we named her Sasha. She is 13 1/2 years old and the BEST dog. She gets along with everyone, great with kids and very smart. She can sit, stay, lay down, rollover we say bang and point our finger at her and she plays dead, she does high 5's, we tell her to get her tail and she spins around in a circle until she bites it, then stops and spins the other way and does it again, she can have food placed on her nose and she will flick it off and catch it in her mouth. The only down side for a while with her was when she feels bored or needs to get out for a run she would dig. Please let us know what the puppy's name is when you decide.

As soon as I saw the picture, I thought "ASPEN".

I had a Minature American Eskimo growing up and his name was "YUKON" (wasn't a big fan of it then)

Congrats on getting a dog...I'm jealous!!!
