How to remove wax from clothes and carpets?

Hi,

I have spilt some warm wax on my clothes and on my carpet what can I do/use to completely remove it?
It has started to dry and is now tacky.

Is it strip wax? I spilt a huge amount of wax on my carpet a while ago and tried everything to get it out.. They only thing that worked was putting some brown paper (like baking paper) and ironing over it with a warm iron. It didn't take the stain of the colour out but took all the stickyness away.
