just woundering if any salon owners have herd of this licence that you must have to play either the radio or cd's in your salon?
i have not herd of this and had a phone call to say i must pay for a licence if im going to play music where the public are listening to, (copy right) it also gets more expensive the more chairs and treatments we do?? i cant understand why treatments and how many chairs i have in salon would make a difference to the cost.
they say a tv licence covers the radio licence at home.......well if that the case i will buy a tv licence for the salon....my clients are asking already for a tv so they will not miss a match in the world cup!!!!! not my idea, honest, i cannot stand the game, nor do i like the idea of having a tv on in salon....i could put it in the waiting area and it would be nice for clients who bring their kids after school to watch kids programmes.
im trying to justify having to pay a yearly cost of over £117 to play the radio!
What do you all think geeks??

I'd rather let them do the leg work and I'll pay the fine if they catch me, Cheryl! Cheek.

I find it really unbelievable.
How, exactly, are they going to police this? Spot checks?
It makes a joke of techs who are serious about their work.
I'm not responsible for paying this but it still really annoys me.

I would rather sing to my clients instead.

I received a letter last week then yesterday got a phone call from a man who said it would cost me £40.00 at a special rate and then it would be £90.00 next yearif I paid by credit care over the phone ????? sure I give anyone my credit card details ??
He tricked me by first asking if I listen to music .
Also he asked me to give him the names and adresses of anyone who has a salon who might be listening to music ???? they cant even police themselves now.How dare he expect me to inform on my neighbours.
Anyway I refuse to pay it I would rather work in silence than pay,I think everyone who has a letter or phone call would be better not giving in and going to court as a protest .

that sound like a scam of some sort I would check with your licensing and regulation depart or the better business bearu or the commerce dept

It does exist and it is legal. However I think that pop stars are over paid as it is, why should small businesses have to cough up? In fact I've often played a CD only for my client to love it and go out and buy it, so I should have some sort of slice of the royalites, not be paying it!!!! Every where you turn in this country we are being taxed up to our armpits and I'm sick of it.

IT just seems so unbeleivable. I don't think they'd have a chance of doing that here.

My boss phoned them last week and they told her that as long as there is no copyright label on the back we were ok to play the CD's.We never play the radio anyway.HTH

here i Denmark we have koda and have to pay 3500 kr (320 pounds) per year to hear the radio.... i got this folder saying it is so nice to receive money .. then the star is not doing show or selling any cds... and the fine is really high if they catch you liserning to the radio again. so i pay now.. but wrote them a email saying... i would like 3000 kr a year off them.. because this people get to enjoy my nails out and about in the public too.... funnily they never reply

I got contatcted several years ago about this. From memory, we paid for a year then just didn't bother renewing it and haven't been caught or anything. The hairdresser next door dutifully pays his, but I really don't see the need. Personally, I don't see how they could possibly police every business with this kind of thing.

I'll play what I want .. when I want ... and no one is going to tell me I have to pay for the priviledge of doing it. I hope everyone stands up and tells them to go to hell. Bastards! :irked:

LOL u tell em.I dont think they could possibly police everyone as mentioned earlier, just yet another money making scam.I mean does this money actually go to the musicians?????I DONT THINK SOoooo,Half of them dead anyway or nowhere to be found.

So, do you only have to pay if you listen to the radio orcd's? If thats the case, then can i get my musician boyfriend to record me a cd of his music, and play that? It infuriates me that small businesses have to pay out money like this, god we struggle enough as it is!
