More expensive than what, I'm a bit confused

The conversion course includes the training, kit and lamp :)

Than the other systems. Will be because of lamp etc. Thats what I thought it might be, thanks x

Hi there I am looking to start a part time NVQ Level 2 in Beauty Therapy in September. The college has told me that I will be required to attend an interview prior to being accepted onto the course. Does anyone know what will be asked or expected of me? Also, it's a long time away til I actually start the course and I was wondering if there are courses that anyone could suggest that I do in the meantime? I work full time so I would only be able to attend in the evenings. There is a nail art course starting in my local area next week, and I was thinking of going to that. Any suggestions please?

Thanks!

Have just found this: THE answer to the most FAQ - "which training should I choose?"

Sorry if I wasted the time of the people that read my thread!!!

HI HUN when i trained (er a few years ago lol) they looked at my hands, present yourself well be positive about what you want to acheive be confident, but most of all be yourself !! They will give you a list of books you need im not sure what they are now it's all changed but you could get a book from the library about anatomy & physiology it's an indepth subject so if you can get some background on skeletal system ect you will find it easier !!! hope this is helpful

I'm currently training with Ezflow and having to travel a bit. I think it's worth it as the training and support I've received from the company is first class!

I completely agree with the others,
Distance is irrelevant for the correct training,
I took my first ever scary moterway drive to do my training with ezflow....sounds simple....my nerves said otherwise..
:green:

A few months back a fellow geek oey, travelled over an hour to pick me up,(thankyou T x) then we travelled over a further hour to manchester...then got a taxi...a train...and another taxi..over to leeds to see the popit demo with Gigi,
Then all the same back home again...Poor Oey didnt get home until about 10pm that night...But it was worth it..and was an investment into our businesses

I have recived more support from my educator with Ezflow
( caroline ...absoloutly Fab)Than you can imagine,
Im glad I took the step ...and I am sure you will be too,

Sorry hun but most nail courses are very much practical hands on training and I would stay away from Liqid powder while pregnant as the fumes are not good for your baby.
Rather do a min pedi course then when you can find time to go to a part time maybe some places offer week end courses then you get siiter look after your child and do it part time, giving you best both worlds.

There are home learn courses available...one is called, Essential Nails.

Also...Vapours are caused by particles carried in the air.
Fumes are caused by particles carried in smoke.

we do not make fumes in the nail industry HTH

I know what you mean about the traveling Sarah .. not got the greatest roads in the country have we?

but I travel the 5 hour round trip regularly to attend class and really get so much out of my further training that I feel the drive is well worth it xx
lots of guys rave about ezflow training so I'm sure its great, have you thought about updating your skills with your current brand ?

I qualified as a beauty specialist a few years back which covered manicure/pedicure etc, (not nail enhancements) Although i Can do UV gel nails using a cheap system that i have had and been doing for years (rio UV gel) Which has always been really good for doing on myself, friends and family. My aunt has been a nail technician for around 11 years and only does fibreglass nails which she has started to teach me how to do. Im actually getting quite good. The thing is i am wanting to do this as a part time job but didnt know whether to go to college or to just learn with my aunt? I was planning on doing fibreglass and Uv gel, i didnt realise how many different types of gel there are, i'd like to use a one phase gel, does anyone have any reccomendations? I dont mind if its file or soak off. I know most people are probably going to say to go to college but the way i am seeing it at the moment is that i pretty much know what im doing, its just the knowing what to do with different products from different brands.

You have to look at your insurance ... can you be insured to work on the public doing nails?

I would not want to go to a nail technician that only 'pretty much knew what she was doing'.

You may be artistically great at producing a set of nails in which case ... why on earth not go and get the right qualifications from the company from whom you will buy your products? Learn about how the product you are using works for goodness sakes. Once you try a professional product like Brisa Gel from CND you would never look at a consumer product like Rio again. RIO on the paying public ??? Oh my. You are having a laugh aren't you?

I won't be working on the public until im absolutely sure what im doing is perfect, i certainly wouldn't be charging people if i knew i couldn't do it as well as someone who had done college training. Yes i can get liability insurance.

No i definately wont be using Rio on the public! thats the point i was asking what gel to use.

You really do need to do proper training as you will not be able to get insurance without it.

I realise your Aunt is a nail tech but this really is not the way to train, you will have no recognized certificate and your Aunts techniques may not be up to date.

Do a search on training, there is loads of information on here. You don't have to go to college - you can train with all of the big companies.

I wish you well in your search x

Whoops Gigi beat me to it:lol:

Hiya .. You do need proper recognised training and insurance.

You are missing out on so much hun, there are so many wonderful products out there and so much to learn, its all very exciting and once you open the doors you will be like a kid in a sweet shop. There is sooooo much more to nails than Rio (this is not a professional product, switch the tables...would you pay good money to have your nails done by someone who wasn't properly trained, insured and used a Argos kit...?)

Stick around...there is plenty to read up on here and we will answer any questions you have to help guide you. xx

Thanks for the replies, i just want to make clear that i am not intending on using rio to work with on customers! i was just trying to find out what brand i might like to use and possibly get trained with.

As I said, it is not a matter of doing it as well as another person ... I could get my hair coloured by someone who had watched and could do it as well as someone in a salon ... but she wouldn't have the first clue as to how the products worked or how to fix problems if they arose.

Roll on licencing where we do not have cowboys working on the paying and unsuspecting public. The kitchen mafia and untrained nail people have done more to undermine the public faith in the nail business than anything else proving that just pretty much knowing what you are doing is not enough.

WE professionals have to continually pick up the pieces when the untrained make a mess of people's nails. Yes the public flock to our doors whenever there's trouble .. and there usually is at some time or other.

I'm surprised that as a trained beauty therapist you have so little conscience regarding doing nails which is a far more complicated procedure (chemically) than anything most beauty therapists normally do.

I'm also surprised that you can get liability insurance as most insurers require proof of a certificate, as nail enhancement services are listed separately and are not part of most etheticians ins. cover.

To know what you are doing is perfect will take along take real training with a recognised trainer....and even after that it takes alot of practise and hard work.

Once you have chosen what training you want to do....see this....THE answer to the most FAQ - "which training should I choose?" - Salon Geek

Then you will have a better idea on what products you would like to use.
