I see now you say you are wanting to get trained. Forgive me but that was not what was indicated in your first post at all. If you are planning to get trained and only work if you get trained than that is a good thing.

I'm going to the college now for almost 8 months and have 3 months more to go, to know how to do nails and to get a proper nail diploma.....its not fear that people go and buy cheap product and do nails with out any certificate!!!!!!!

this is the thread about choosing a good gel....

good luck..........

I just want to add Im not one of those people who want to use the cheapest products and claim to be a fully qualified nail technician when im not. I know about containdications and diseases of the nail etc (from my beauty qualification) All I was thinking of doing was finding a specific brand and getting the training for that brand and only using that brand. would that be ok? or do you think id need to do a year at college?

No you wouldn't. You could take a company Foundation training for nails specifically. The good ones are at least 5 days.

I qualified as a beauty specialist a few years back which covered manicure/pedicure etc, (not nail enhancements) Although i Can do UV gel nails using a cheap system that i have had and been doing for years (rio UV gel) Which has always been really good for doing on myself, friends and family. My aunt has been a nail technician for around 11 years and only does fibreglass nails which she has started to teach me how to do. Im actually getting quite good. The thing is i am wanting to do this as a part time job but didnt know whether to go to college or to just learn with my aunt? I was planning on doing fibreglass and Uv gel, i didnt realise how many different types of gel there are, i'd like to use a one phase gel, does anyone have any reccomendations? I dont mind if its file or soak off. I know most people are probably going to say to go to college but the way i am seeing it at the moment is that i pretty much know what im doing, its just the knowing what to do with different products from different brands.

You will probably find that without a proper qualification, you will not be able to get insurance for working on the public. If the worst happens and someone makes a claim against you when you are not insured, it will be very costly, and you could even lose your business.

If you would like to find out more about the insurance the Guild can offer, click here.
