Thank you so much, I can't wait to have them taken out now and I hope that this whole thing gets sorted soon.

I've decideded after this incident that I'm just going to have a really good hair cut then in a few months maybe I might be feeling brave and go for a new hair colour! I think I've been scared off of extensions for a little while. I'm just thankful that it's not close to my wedding as I would've been frantic!

Before I posted on this board I was feeling so guilty about questioning her as I thought maybe she is right and it's just me being ridiculous, but it is so comforting that I now know I'm not loosing my marbles :) Xx
No, you have pictures you should defiantly have them taken out ASAP, firstly they are seriously to heavy for your fine hair, the bonds for your type of hair should be as small as a grain of rice , you cannot achieve this with pre bonded hair the size needs to be tailor made to suit clients with very fine hair, secondly colour matching is key to an undetectable set and this colour is a totally different shade to your own hair, it's at least 4 shades lighter. Hair rows are not the biggest issue but how the hair is placed to the anchor it is going to be bonded to should be a very neat small section. I'm very sorry you have had this awful experience but I would defiantly push on with your procedure as I would be questioning her *expertise. The red patches can be quite common as it is extra weight the scalp is not used to, so it is reacting, the itching normally occurs if they have been fitted to tight and close to the scalp but that does not seem to be the case here, it is possible you are having a reaction to the glue, it is rare but not ruled out. I hope you sort this situation out.

Good on you for taking action! Women like her give other extensionists bad names!

I'm so glad all is being sorted for you too.

Regardless of her personal circumstances she shouldn't let it affect her work. I know we all through bad stages or difficult times but it should never affect the service you provide.

Keep smiling lovely, and let us all know how you get on today [emoji4]

Thank you so much for your advice :)

I have spoken with my solicitor this morning, and I'm just waiting to find out if she is insured.. if she isn't I have to go via the small claims court which can be a nightmare. I'm hoping she realises how seriously I'm taking this now.

When she first put the hair in, she said that it created a natural looking 'ombre' effect - To be honest I didn't really notice the difference in colour until I lifted the ends of the extensions up and put them on top of my natural coloured hair, the extensions are almost white and my natural hair is a caramel type blonde. As I said I've certainly learnt my lesson after this disaster!

Thank you so much again X

I'm please to report that the Solicitor is firing on all cylinders this morning :) I genuinely didn't want it to escalate to this level, but after what I have been through since having them in and her attitude, I felt as thought I had no other option.

I went to the salon this morning and they are going to be taking them out on Saturday as this is when the owner/head extentionist is back from holiday and they felt she would be the best person to take them out, however if things get worse I can go back and one of the other extentionists will take them out for me. They couldn't believe the condition of my scalp, after the short amount of time that I had these extensions in. They are going to write a report on the condition of my hair and the application/fitting of extensions in there professional opinion.

Thank you all so much for all of your incredible advice and support, I honestly don't know what I would've done without this board :) X

When you pick up the courage to get extensions again it seems like you've found a good place to go!

Exactly! I just wish in hindsight I had found them before this lady :)

**UPDATE**

Hi Guys,

Just a quick update.

I informed the lady that fitted them that I needed her insurance details as this is how the claim would progress. She said 'that's fine that is what it's there fore'

I asked for her insurer's name to pass on to my solicitor along with her policy number - she messaged me several hours later saying

'I've just rung up my liability insurance it was only renewed a few days ago and I didn't have liability from the date of fitting so I don't know where to go from here it's causing me too much stress worrying and I don't need this atm, no ones ever done this to me so it's upsetting but ovb what you went through with your senstive scalp isn't nice either and I believe both of us aren't in the wrong. Can I refund you for my time of fitting and cutting/styling? As there wasn't a problem with the actual hair I wouldn't be able to get a refund on this. It wasn't faulty.'

When I forwarded this onto my Solicitor he said that the fact she didn't offer a full refund is quite insulting - he said normally there would be an element of pain and suffering to any claim of this nature, but pursuing a case against someone who is uninsured can be a mine field.

To be honest, I would be happy with a full refund and I would never dream of taking advantage of her and asking for more, as to me, it is a lesson learnt (albeit a painful one!) and I don't want to take the mick.

I was going to message her and say I'm going against my solicitors advice and that I would be happy with a full refund.. What do you guys think? X

Personally, I think she should pay you compensation for suffering as well as a full refund. If she gets away with just a token payment, she's probably going to carry on with her shoddy work and bad attitude.

As I suspected, she was working uninsured.

Chances are, she might not even be qualified to fit extensions.

People like her need to learn that they can't play at being hairdressers/extensionists. If they're going to charge for their services, they need to be registered with HMRC, insured and qualified!

Grrrr!

If it was me i would want at least a full refund. I would ask for copies of certificates now as well. She probably isnt even registered with hmrc as self employed.

If I was the technician I would have removed them whatever the time or day and offered a refund !! Let's hope her scalp doesn't ever end up like that so unfair she deserves everything she gets ! She ought to be ashamed of herself but people like that have no conscience x

I was quite shocked that she wasn't to be honest! I just stupidly assumed that she would be.

I have no idea what fair compensation would be? I'm scared that if I ask for more than the refund she will do a runner and stop replying to my messages.

She said she has worked in a salon then gone mobile and she seemed really lovely, I suppose I was a bit naive and now I'm paying the price :(

Thank you so much for your advice X

That is quite frankly terrifying! I have never, ever been in this situation before and I hope I never am again!

It might sound strange but if her attitude was decent when I initially brought this to her attention, I probably would've just gotten them taken out and take it as a lesson learnt.

But like other people have mentioned it worries me that she could be doing this to other people.

I'll see if I can find out anymore information on her certificates as it would be good to know.

To be honest, with how she has behaved I couldn't agree more - she will probably carry on doing this until someone stands their ground.

I don't want to be too harsh with her, which sounds mad, but quite honestly I just want this entire situation to be dealt with and I know if I even mention compensation she will more than likely loose her temper and tell me I'm stressing her out too much!

I did some digging online.. She worked at a local hairdressers for 2 years then became a freelance extentionist.

It said in a business page that she is insured and registered with City & Guilds.

I'll let you know if I find out anything else :)

It looks like exactly what I had done earlier this year, I had them taken out after two weeks. I got a second opinion from a specialist extension fitting hairdressers who confirmed what I thought, they were poorly fitted. I then went back to the salon who put them in for them to remove them. Once done I told them I wanted a full refund and explained about the second opinion I had. I got a refund with no fuss!

I'd reply to her and state that you want a full refund and as much as you're aware that she's pregnant and you don't want to cause her any unnecessary stress, this isn't your fault and is unfortunately what happens when you carry on working. Work isn't always plain sailing especially when she's uninsured.

Maybe this will be a lesson to her and she'll realise you can't be 'forgetful' or down right stupid, bearing in mind she thinks she's some amazing business woman, she should know this!

Don't back down, this is life, she needs to fix up and look after her business correctly, I'd be mortified if I had a complaint and I'd never had one before, I'd be bending over backwards to keep my reputation tbh.

I think that she may not want to admit fitting them badly, she is still adamant that it is the shampoo - I couldn't find anything in terms of business details and considering she has apparently been doing this for 7 years, it's concerning.

I think I'm just going to ask for a refund and put all of this behind me, and I will know for next time that I need to do extensive research first and not be an idiot relying on facebook reviews :)

Thank you for your advice X

I really do hope that she was just having a bad day with me as if she has the 800 clients she claims to have, I wouldn't want any of them to go through what I have.

I'm not sure if she was just being defensive or whether she was just trying to put me off progressing things further to be honest, or maybe she genuinely believes she is great at her job - whatever her reasons I'm just pleased that this whole thing will hopefully be over soon :)

As you say, I do hope she learns from this, whether it's the fitting, the shampoo or the hair.

Thank you for your advice X

Sorry, slightly random question, how many of the strands should I have in my hair if it was for a full head of extensions?

X

Normally 150-200g but that all depends on what the weight of each strand is, how thick/fine your hair is etc.

Hope you get it sorted soon
