I've got the calculator & tracker on my phone but find it a bit annoying to have to use it all the time because my brain is a sieve at the minute lol.

I was planning to start weeks ago but kept putting it off because of my girly holiday being AI and then knowing it would be almost impossible to eat the right way in Eurodisney.

Well I'm proud to announce:

Week 1 = 5lb loss

:D:D

:D:D

Well done you :D

Are you finding it easy? & are you using up your weeklys or any activity points? I keep swapping & changing what I'm doing to see what works best. x

Thanks.

Finding it ok most of the time. I have discovered fruit & veg is my best friend lol.

I just used my 29 daily points.

None of my weekly points and no exercise. I'm doing it at home alone, not joined a group or joined online.

I got a subsidised gym referral off my Dr this morning so should be getting that membership through in about a month and then I will introduce the exercise.

Lost 1lb, not bad considering I snacked a few times during the week, weightloss so far 18.5lb :) x x

I do it at home alone, I begrudge paying £6 to get on some scales & stay for a 10 minute meeting, I actually prefer doing it at home. & that £6 i save as tight as it may sound lol pays for my fruit/veg from the Market each week.

Good luck to you x

You don't need a gym membership to do exercise!

Thanks, I agree that I prefer to spend the money I would at the meetings on things we need like fruit & veg or even sweets/treats for the kids.

How long have you been doing it now? Good luck to you too, you seem to be doing really well.

My mate is doing it too & going to meetings but she makes me laugh, as she lost 1lb this week (having been quite naughty and blowing all her weeklys on booze) she treated herself to sausage & chips.
I thought not too bad, then she said she had eaten 12 sausages  that is all her days points just on sausages but she'd done this in the evening after already eating her whole days points on day 1 of the week - eeeekkkkkk.

Anna-c I know I don't need to go to the gym to exercise but I have seen my Dr for advice on how I should start exercising because I don't want to hurt myself or be wasting my time thinking I'm doing the correct things when I'm doing totally the wrong things.
She has given me a referral to the gym - this comes with a personal trainer who will work with me to ensure I am doing the correct things and that I'm not going to overdo things or hurt myself - I think that is the responsible way to go about starting to exercise while overweight and I didn't go there asking for the referral but if help is offered to me I won't refuse it.

I appreciate what you're saying, and that is the right thing to do. However, you could have easily been at least walking every day while waiting to start a proper exercise plan.

Please don't make snap judgements on someone you don't know.

I have 4 children to run around after, I'm not sat doing nothing all day. I keep house (cooking, cleaning, shopping etc..), have 3 school runs a day to 3 different schools (youngest is only half day) and I am a mobile therapist too.

I also believe that a 5lb loss is fantastic, so don't think that you need to be having a go at me for not introducing exercise in my first week of dieting.

I will be going about introducing exercise the way my Dr says to thank you. I don't see why I should have to defend that decision either.

How is your dieting going?

This was a bit uncalled for! Everyone is different and I for one don't have time to go walking, I'm fully booked from morning until night!

Hi, can I just ask-are you being referred to a private or council run gym? Do you have to pay for this? I'm a secretary at a GP practice and this is not something we do. I haven't checked your profile but perhaps you live in England and it's done differently there? Is there any reason you couldn't have taken yourself to the gym rather than relying on a referral?? I'm confused why a GP would offer this service when they are so short of cash which should be spent on more important things. I'm hoping you can clarify. PGx

I don't think it was. If someone doesn't have time for a walk they won't have time to go to a gym, workout with a personal trainer and then get home.

As I said I did not go to the Dr asking for a referral I was there for other reasons (blood tests) and when I asked her advice on starting to exercise because I don't want to hurt myself (making me no use to my family or clients). She offered to refer me to the gym with the personal trainer who would then help me to make a plan that suits me, I accepted the offer of help. It is a council run gym and I will have to pay £1 per session I attend. The course is 16 weeks and they wish me to attend 2/3 times a week if possible. I live in Wales - I know nothing about the scheme other than you have to fit a set criteria to get a referral, it's not a free for all. I fit because of other health issues as well as being at risk of CHD. I was planning on taking myself to the gym as you put it and I was offered the referral help and I took it, I was not relying on it as I didn't know about it or expect it. I asked the Dr advice on where to start as I thought it a wise thing to do.

It was uncalled for as you don't know me or my circumstances and you have made judgements on me. Not only judging me for getting help but also for judging me as not helping myself - which I think is very harsh just 1 week into a diet.

I thought this thread was a supportive one, for those geeks who are using WW to diet to help and encourage each other. Maybe I'm wrong and I should stop posting my progress on here.
But then I think - hang on a minute, I give lots of my time and my knowledge & I give advice too and plenty of Geeks thank me for my input on a regular basis so why should someone who doesn't know me make me feel wrong for being proud of a good weight loss and a plan to get exercising.

Also Pretty Geek I asked how your dieting is going but you've not answered.

That's fair enough. I'm in Scotland so it's obviously a different referral scheme they have here. We never refer anyone to a gym-people are more likely to be prescribed Orlistat here. I really wasn't judging you. I was wondering why a GP would refer someone to a gym...I suppose however thinking about it that it's a better option than merely popping a pill like they do here. At least if you're gymming it then those skills you learn will last a lifetime.

I'm in no position to judge anyone (who is?!) and I didn't mean it to come across that way. I go to weightwatchers for the exact same reason as everyone else-I'm overweight and I want to shift it. I will think how I word things in future. Best of luck with your gym sessions and WW. PGx

GP's in Scotland (well West Coast at least) refer to Live Active for gym/leisure, the scheme is for a lot more than weight loss. Mental illness and stuff. :) helped me a lot x
